post://6987543379964833330/There is still time, they've extended the deadline, unfortunately this led to my sister's business being without email for a half a day. I had sent her an email when renewal for her domain was coming up and she said "oh I'm just going to go with this free one" ok, sure... guess things aren't going that well, go ahead and use the free site.
Well, when it expired, sure enough I get a call "my email isn't working". Huh, yeah, didn't think of the email aspect "If I told you email was included would that have changed your mind? - Yes" well then... dualy noted. In any case she was kinda upset, it seemed like she thought I had slacked on sending her an email where in my mind I was thinking "ok, I did all this setup for her, and now she doesn't want it - ok, no problem - she's got it" I didn't take into account that she wasn't considering email. I hadn't considered email. Domain is domain, if you have domain covered, as is email covered... she didn't know that, oh well, live and learn.
So besides pissing off my sister I haven't done much with work. It's been crazy with the recent projects, and working with the UK which means getting up 4 to 5 hours earlier (given whatever the current daylight savings is set to). So I've been burning out sooner then later. I'ts 2pm and I'm off work. Not sure if that's common knowledge but I started at 4am and otherwise I'm going to explode and/or fall asleep.
I've been working quite a bit, but still some time for the child in the evenings. I can't remember if I've named him online yet - might as well not start now if I haven't. I know the name of my child and if you know me you know his name as well, darn, just gave away that he's male... or did I? :)
In any case it's been great seeing the baby mature - almost 8 months and counting. I remember our friends reaching 8 months and thinkng wow... we're not quite there yet, but yeah, we're here now, and in another couple it'll be 12. Time was measurable by the seasons in most cases, but now we've got a whole human who evolves by leaps and bounds by the day, let alone the month, or the year. Time just keeps on keeping on regardless.
I'm thankful for my child, and really think this will all be so fleeting. Nicole's already thinking of another one, but at least my retentive self can infuse a little control in holding off for the time being. There is much work, career, and additional planning to be done. If we're ever to be organized and have a handle on things, 1 is all we can handle from a financial standopint.
I can't describe the feeling I get when my child looks up at me in adoration and comfort and satisfaction. There is something that comes from within at seeing a human who depends on you, who recognizes you, who appreciates and loves to see you. It's a beautiful thing and < soapbox > I just hope that all have the opportunity to have a secure enough life to sponsor a new life. I see many a person who is in no position and where I am not one deny them that, at the expense of the child I am willing to deny them that.
There's just too much badness in the word to bring a fresh child into. If you need a child that badly, it's a great goal to pull yourself out of said badness first.

post://431136115015138319/I got an email the other day that blogger would no longer support FTP. That messes up my whole deal, anyone I ever set up. Myself, my business. my sister, all impacted and I either need to get some great content management system up in less then a month and a half or get some ajax going.
Kind of lame for them to do this, they sayh it costs too much money but back in the day I gladly paid for Blogger. I'd gladly do it again but that's no an option. They got bought, it's been a couple years. Now no one cares. Any .com has to be custom now, though, further separating the hobbiests from the professionals.

- Interesting - So the Blogger transition is not so drastic, there is actually a reasonable option of sending a blog to a subdomain. I guess Google still hosts it and they have you set up a CNAME record to point to their server which will determine (based on the configuration you've saved within your blogger account) what blog it's linked to. I have like 10 for various areas of my site, so this should be interesting. Most aren't even used anymore but they're kinda cool to have from a historical standpoint.

post://2013052032062019405/So I've been playing with the links - you may have noticed. They still update automatically, but need to rewrite the scrolling code so it's imbedded. I'm trying to rewrite anything iframe to javascript and get things to tie in a little better then the current section format.
I've realized the blocks don't really seem to go together but screen size has come a long way since my "throw compatability to the wind" 1024+ super-wide background.
So content still flows here and there but lately it's all about how to better present it. I'm in need of extending the text area and maybe making the bckground repeat in a such a way that it will adapt to a long scrolling last 10 entires or something.
I have an archive but it's difficult to keep going back and going back but also don't want to have the initial page loaded up with over a years worth of entries at a time.
So still figuring things out but you can expect only minor morphing - things will generally stay the same. Besides, Chinese MP3 search engines don't really care what format my website is in since they just hotlink from their results to said MP3s.

post://3410978190845501729/Got an idea to pull in my twittering to the sidebar. I know it exists already but knd of looking forward to writing it myself. Javascript is like a baseball glove. My plan is to pull the whole page (unless there's an RSS) via javascript and then find the start tag of the twitted text and pull each consecutive line to a string until reaching the end tag. I could then adapt the script for a bunch of stuff.

post://6159892700569416999/Peapod has taken forever to come to the area... it sucks because I would love to order my groceries online and then have them delivered. The next best thing to that is ordering online and picking them up. Well the time has come for online grocery shopping as Big Y has BigY2Go in Greenfield and Springfield (Walpole too but that's all Boston-y).
I was able to go through our entire grocery list and order. You can search, or go through by category and choose what you want in your order. The best part was that it not only shows you the sales, but you can sort by unit price so you can see which is the cheapest method of buying each thing. I saw poptarts, an 8 count and a 12 count and I could see the 12 count was quite a beat cheaper per unit.
That may seem obvious, but there are other foods where it's not so obvious, and even when I'm curious I don't want to look all over multiple shelves comparing the tomatoes... and what happens when you see that thing you want in an odd part of the grocery store, do you go look for the best deal where it's home is, or do you just pick it up? That's what they're counting on!
Shopping this way allows me to see all the raisins available, and judge whether it's really worth the 6 cents a unit or 30 cents a package for the better tasting ones. The issue can't really be made for saving money, however - because if you were really looking to save all this money you wouldn't be paying them $10 to go grab your list of items off the shelves for you.
$10 for an entire order of groceries (translates to $3 an hour the way I food shop) is well worth it, and I feel quite a reasonable price. So if you live in Springfield or Greenfield MA - give it a shot, it sounds like this could be the feature and I'm loving the potential.

I'm still using a template and I like i that way. I have my own ways of adding things to the page but I don't have the time to do it. That's why the scrolling links page has been a white box slapped on top of everything else for so long. I know what I want to do with it, but haven't gotten around to it.
In any case I thought Google's new gadget APi looked like a pretty cool idea.

What is Silverlight? It's a JavaScript front end for VB. I can write limited VB and use it on the web, so all the stuff I'm familiar with how to do can be translated to a flash-like experience, animated, rich gui application (webpage).

post://5332822013358361988/Like seeing whats up with new sites, this was a fledgling service, and I was all on board with it, finally ponied up the dough and blam, they went mega (Yahoo bought them). This is what happened with Blogger (kinda) I had been using Blogger for a while and finally went pro - a few months went by and they decided to thank everyone who actually paid for Blogger with a free sweatshirt. I think they sent the same M size to everyone, but I've still got it and even occasionally wear it.
Try it out, it's pretty neat... and you can vote and other little things like... such as, and henceforth:

I am hoping it can be a sort of mixer place where people can post items they might not necessarily put on their website. Of course it would probably be that much less effort for someone to post it on their website. I can still wish to be the cool kid...

post://3791269297214567438/Check out the Crime Scenes - Apparently a new movie about a series of murders in 1989. I like the idea of a modern movie taking place in a realistic time period. One that I can actually watch and recognize the time period while getting all nostalgic.
I'm posting it because it's a superbly done flash site, and a good example of what can be done with modern web authoring.
