Randy Boyer just came out with a new track:
Randy Boyer & Kristina Sky (ft Cari Golden) - No Limit

- check it out if you're a fan of trance / dance. I've also seen a couple remixes of his around like this one for darude.

I originally heard about Randy Boyer from a friend at work, another fellow aspiring DJ he was impressed with Randy's style of trance. He introduced me and I caught a show this winter at room 960 in the middle of a blizzard (which s the start to any great story in New England).

It was a great show, he's got an awesome style. You can listen to some of his other tracks over on his site: RandyBoyer.com and if you sign up for the newsletter you'll get a password for the secret area with all sorts of exclusive mixes and songs in MP3.

Check out the video for Randy Boyer & Kristina Sky (ft Cari Golden) - No Limit

Oh... so nice.

I just re-downloaded much of the old music I had purchased off iTunes. iTunes finally went full DRM free - 256k, not the best but almost. 320k is the most you can get normally and most pop tunes won't fill that bandwidth on VBR (variable bit rate - adjusts the size to fit how complicated the music is).

In any case there were a lot of tracks I had lost when the mac harddrive originally went - I had backed it up but I hadn't gotten them all. At the time Pepsi was doing their promotion. 1 in 5 caps had a free code for an iTunes download. On a hunch and a curiosity trip I bought 5 one day. I won a free iTunes download on 4 out of 5 and was hooked. For the rest of the summer I never bought fewer then 5 pepsi's at a time. By the end of that summer I believe I garnered over 130 songs before that promotion was through. Free songs, free soda - however you want to look at it.

I was just presented the opportunity to purchase my previously purchased songs. Granted, it's a little bit backwards sounding - I've already paid for these, why do I need to re-buy them? Well, it used to be that you had to do your entire library - an all or nothing sort of thing. A lot of those for me were free tracks or tracks I found sucked after I downloaded the whole thing and got to listen to more then 30 seconds. There was no way I was paying $235 for all the tracks I had ever downloaded. I've now gone through and cherry picked the best ones. I can now use these AAC files with my XSession Pro for mixing without having to record a playing iTunes DRM'd file and make an MP3 of it. It's worth the effort to pay an extra 30 cents for that.

In any case check it out and see what you can do for upgrades.

Here's another mix I did a few months back, realized I hadn't posted it or added it to the net yet - it was still sitting on my work computer and my old MP3 player.

So check it out - I had mixed it up a while ago but since I had recorded of sirius it had a couple dead spots, I've done my best with this version to blend the dead spots out, you can probably still hear them, but this mix would be top notch if not for those IMHO. =)

post://6837641428007151744/

This year's birthday spoils:
- iPod Nano
- Novint Falcon
- NFS Undercover
- BF2142 Deluxe (for the living room PC)

I ended up working half a day today, spent the 2nd half being productive and hanging out with the dog.

I went and got my winter tires off the car, I think we're safe for snow. If it comes now I just won't go anywhere :)
I spent that time waiting listening to my iPod - I was totally that guy in the store with the iPod on. I meandered around Home Depot, looking at some bathroom stuff, and I found a fence I liked. I picked up a rake, and walked back to pick up my car. I didn't really think that much of it, but people look at you funny when you walk into a waiting area with a rake.

It wasn't too long, though I noticed something odd about the iPod touch. Even if you have video in your audio playlist it won't make it to your iPod unless you add the playlist under the video section. I have this thing about rating. I love rating my music, and now that I've perfected moving my whole Library (album art, comments, ratings, along with all the files themselves) I've gotten more serious about it.

1 star - don't like it, don't like it at all - I'll probably delete later
2 star - I appreciate it, but I don't like it enough to have it be played in my background music
3 star - background music
4 star - really good
5 star - makes me stammer when attempting to describe, tear up, or jump up and down
Armin Van Buuren - Shivers (Rising Star Mix) is a good example of what I'd give a 5.

I set up a running playlist of only non-rated files listing the newest out of whatever size, or number of files I restrict it to - but never put much of a dent in it, at least not until I got Jamie's old iPod. It was kinda broken, had synching issues - but she gave it to me for helping with her computer and I got it to mostly work. Doing things very patiently I could reload it ever 5 synchs or so and I'd get about 4 days worth of ratings at a time before I'd have to reload the firmware on it. With an iPod I could now rate the music during the day in the car or at work - I got a lot done.

It eventually frustrated me to the point of crushing it, so of course I took it apart to check it out. I've been non-rating MP3 playering since, at least I had a backup. Now I'm back in the groove. I also had to get a new case because the neoprene DLO case I had for the 1st gen nano covered the bottom 40% of the wheel on the new model - bastards, change it juuuuuust enough.

So I got BF2142 all working for the weekend - coupld of the guys are coming out and we'll have a multi-computery dethmatch of deth, so wanted to make sure all was in tip top shape. I also just installed NFS - I know it's going to be corny, but lets go see what they did with the graphics and this new "Heroic driving engine".

Here are a few mixes I've done as of late:
Anavan - The Perfect Sound (WijiX SoundOff Mix) [listen]

The Veronicas - Untouched (WijiX Touché Mix) [listen]

Lady Gaga - Just Dance (WijiX MiX) [listen]

I also have a pretty awful session [listen] where I started playing with my new XSessionPro. It's the first time I've been able to mix between two MP3s... now if I only had a second audio card on the laptop so I could listen to the cue.

I'm asking for a USB mixer for XMass so I can mix my MP3s together.
I'm a bit concerned how it does the BPM matching. I'd really like to have a dial to adjust it for either so I can do it manually - but just as I feared this I ran into the following (Free) software:

Zulu DJ Mixer by NCH Software

Please donate while you're at it since it's currently free and really great.

There are many options, drag and drop files to load them, then drag them to either A track or B track - you get a visual representation of the track so you can see the dips and stops. You also get volume, pitch, synch (sets BPM), and Cue if you have another audio card or USB headphones. It detects the BPM for each track as you load them, and you can adjust them each independently. You also get filters like distortion, high pass, reverb, phaser, flanger, and delay - all available and adjustable in realtime. It's surprisingly powerful for a free program and most likely better then the software included with the m-audio usb mixer.

Rapid Evolution 2

Runs on Java and Java runs like crap.

It can figure out BPM and key and all that, so it looks like it would be really cool but didn't work right for me on VISTA.
If you have XP - you may want to give it a try. It should work on Linux too - there's different distributions since it runs on Java. After fiddling with it in VISTA I finally got it to access the audio hardware by running a command prompt as administrator and then executing it from a command line (.jar files can't be executed as admin by right clicking). Even when the audio did work, it would play for a few seconds and then stop. The file still appeared to be playing but I couldn't hear anything other then the first 5 seconds.

Well I got the mixer, unfortunately the Zulu DJ does not work with it. M-Audio provides Torq LE from their site to be able to use it. You really need a second audio card to effectively preview otherwise you just collide the other track in but it's got some cool built-in effects, visualization of the track and it's still much better to control an MP3 with then an ipod.

I was practicing some scratching this evening - have a listen...
Cicada Ramada (50% VBR 10mb)
Cicada Ramada (320k Constant 25mb)
(a la roach motel)

I cut it up a bit... I'm thinking my hard drive needs a defrag because right as I was hitting it up style the recording goes all wanky. In any case most of it was still good so I got creative with what I had.

So I was forwarded this little utility for finding random music. I'm still not sure of the full story behind it but I've tried typing in many a random song name and it found something. I'm not sure if it's similar to what I searched for but it's rather difficult to not have something come up.

Hint: Try Song Name - Goose, no Author

Also - I am posting this because I got it to turn out remotely how I wanted it to. I actually redid this one because the one I did last night didn't involve MY NEW MIXER! (and the channels were unbalanced).

So please - listen to DJ WijX - Thrice Baby (Once Removed).mp3

Listening to some of Justin's tracks last night got me a tad nostalgic. Where I may not be able to play guitar, I can play with Audacity =) I've done some stuff in Reason, but haven't really taken the time to really learn it. I'd love to do some collaboration with someone who already knows the ins and outs. I have the ideas, I have the music in my head -- it's just so hard to get it out, just like drawing. I'm a frustrated artist with no skills ;)

Speaking of music, here's a track I did a bit o fiddlin' with Armand Van Heldin's Summer Hit - with a tad more pazaz
Too much? I felt it repeated a little to much, so it at least eases into the repetitive cycle.

It's in OGG format, so you will probobly need a different codec. Unlike MP3, OGG is freeware.

I heard this song a while back, I thought it was perfect but kept thinking we wouldn't be able to dance to it. It actually keeps a fairly slow beat, though it's a bit harder then normal mushy wedding songs.

I don't want this to be a normal mushy wedding though, cause I don't feel that way, I'm much more real in my feelings for Nicole.

I appreciate that she came along and I've changed my life quite a bit for the better because of her influence and support. I've grown a great deal since we met, she was able to help me see how I could be a better person.

Life is much more enjoyable now, I'm pleased with my progress towards my goals and it just wouldnt' feel the same if I didn't have someone to share that with.

Staind - "So Far Away"

this is my life
its not what it was before
all these feelings i've shared
and these are my dreams
that i'd never lived before
somebody shake me
'cause i
i must be sleeping

[chorus]
now that we're here,
it's so far away
all the struggle we thought was in vain
all the mistakes,
one life contained
they all finally start to go away
now that we're here its so far away
and i feel like i can face the day i can forgive
and i'm not ashamed to be the person that i am today

these are my words
that i've never said before
i think i'm doing okay
and this is the smile
that i've never shown before

somebody shake me 'cause i
i must be sleeping

[chorus]

i'm so afraid of waking
please don't shake me
afraid of waking
please don't shake me

[chorus]

Oh, and if anyone was wondering Justin Durand is up to his old tricks. It looks like he checks his MySpace often as well. I can't believe how much the songs remind me of hanging out after Drama Club =)

It's all great stuff, lots of great music and art - so give it a listen. The tracks work, but the rest of the site seems to be broke.

post://8024153020850409123/

So the opposite of not much happening has been happening - I'm wishing now I kept up on the posting. I'm going to have a hole in the whole "just got my first house" period. Most of the reason I keep a blog is for my own recollection. It's not very good on it's own, so throw a couple pictures and paragraphs together and I have a much better recollection.

Just this weekend:
- friday ~ I had off to get a tooth pulled. I actually had the gas/IV and it was awesome. It was considered "a luxery" by my insurance, and even at $225 for this "luxery" I don't think I'd recommend going without. I floated out of the office, but by the time we got back home, the novicain had worn off and it really began to hurt. I'm still a bit swolen a couple of days later but the 5mg of oxy are keeping me fine in the interim.
Later on we went furniture shopping, I was nice and fuzzy and feeling a bit stir crazy so figured why not... we went to a few local places to check out couches, chairs, and china cabinets. We've got our table and bar already picked out so we're looking for items to match. I think we found a china cabinet, but not buying just yet. We finally went to go look at matresses. We've got a bedroom picked out at Ikea, but still need a mattress. I heard about a sale at Sleepys so we looked there.
We were the only ones in the place so we got a lot of attention. They have a special bed you lay on and it gets your exact spine shape and determines the best mattress for you (and your sleep partner in our case). We found a good one, and as it turns out the sales girl was from Quaboag - so got employee pricing w/ free delivery and such to boot!

- saturday ~ Nicole's mom came out to visit for the shower on Sunday, I spent a bit of time hanging out and then headed out to Jay's to hang out for his b-day and Cinco de Mayo. It was fun, but interesting since I wasn't drinking. I had picked up Jay some XBox360 games as there was a sale on used games at EBGames. We had rented Rockstar table tennis a while back and it was awesome, when I saw it for $17 used I knew it was time. So we played that for most of the night. I also got him Prey and Tomb Raider. TR was just like the old ones - probably the best one yet. It played well and looked fabulous. I didn't get a chance to play Prey. It was ok when I played the demo for PC, and though I don't feel it would be worth full price, it was well worth it at <$20.
Mattress got delivered and dang... never knew what we were missing with a bunch of springs.

- sunday ~ Nicole's bridal shower, so now we've got lots of new stuff, appliances and such. No Wii yet, but we've got 4 controllers, at least 2 nunchucks, and Wii Play, so we'll at least have a lot of fun mini games to play with at least 4 people when we do get the Wii. The house is really coming together, and it was a great feeling to take all our old dingy towels, pans, and box everything up. Amazing what a bunch of new stuff will do ;)

We've finally got the invitations out, so you should be getting them shortly. Also we got a WAV of my nieces and nephews doing some practice for our wedding.
Take a listen!

I'm not sure what to make of this chick. Is she Spanish, is she from the UK? Is she a spanish chick from the UK? It sounds a bit like Avril, as in lyrical depth but she has a good voice. I saw her on SNL this week and didn't know what to make. She seems young, with a Spanish feel... like, from Spain. Exotic. I like her music, and there's a Sirius Exclusive Remix of Lilly Allen - "Smile" [it's OGG format], and some MP3s direct from her unsecured Flash music player on her website. These are really the bulk of her songs.

Listen, and comment:

I think the Mix Tape just sold me on this girl's taste.
Check out the Mix Tape 1 about 17 minutes in.

    Phenominal.
The Album Teaser has a clip from a song about her baby brother smoking pot in bed all day... so are they on their own?

    I'm intrieged.
