I downloaded phonebooth thinking it was photobooth. I expected "man who falls in love with a woman and her family after developing her pictures" with Robin Williams, instead I got a pompous ass stuck in a phone booth by a psycho with a high-powered rifle.

I'm thoroughly entertained right now, 40:00 in.
I can't see how it'll go on for 2 hours though.

Well it ended up being pretty good, he kept him in there the whole time and I didn't expect it to end as it did. All in all -- good acting, good premise (kind of like Seven with a twist), and it must have been a damn good pitch for them to actually make the movie. =]

This was quite disturbing, but it was done well.

By Josh, at Tuesday, June 01, 2004 12:33:00 PM

I just watched Phonebooth the other day. I had been curious about the movie, wondering how well they would be able to hold my interest, with such a limited set. But I thought it was very well done, and was impressed at the way they kept the tension throughout the movie. I'm not sure that it's good enough that I'd want to own it, but it was an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.

You should see One Hour Photo if you get a chance. It's an interesting movie. It's a little bizarre, but I thought it was done very well.

I think it's on my Netflix list, will be coming eventually ;)

All in all I'd give it 4 out of 5, and that's saying a lot for a movie that takes place in a phone booth.

    ^-^

I'm writing this because I've gotten some good news.

I'm preparing my resume. I think I have one somewhere, I just need to re-write it and send it on. I have a few other qualifications since RCN -- so need to add those, besides I think the preferred resume format has evolved a bit in 3 years. I want to gush, but I'm afraid to go into details. There's a lot of people vying for work in this field and I'd rather wait until I know it's a sure thing before I go blabbing.
For now -- I've gotten a lead, I'm going for it... it'll be a stretch, a tough time to start but I can do it, and sometimes you need to really button down in order to move your life onward.

GAME ON!

Well things are OK with the site -- stated things in a very business like fashion, gave a few options, and he was fine when I stopped in a bit earlier today. He wasn't aware of how much was involved with the site, I'll take that as a compliment that I make it look easy.

I'm poor, I've been paying for food the past couple days with change. I just finished up my Wendys and I don't think I've ever eaten so much for $3 =] I ain't too proud to give $3 in nickels, dimes, and quarters to the drive-up girl, but it would be nice if banks were still banks. You need to be a customer now-a-days, and have the change rolled in order for them to give you the time of day. I suppose they figure you can just go somewhere else, and if you're not going to be a customer, someone else will come along who will.

I'm just hanging in there until Friday -- though after working 5 hours last week, I'm expecting a whopping $30 check from GAP (if I'm lucky). My mom's tag sale is on Saturday, so that'll help --maybe make a few bucks. It'll also be nice to get rid of some of these extra monitors and electronics that have been hanging around the house too long. eBay is a possibility, it's a lot more work then a tag sale, however =]

Not bad for a few hours work... I was able to mute the white spots a bit, and framed things a bit more -- keep within the theme while improving readability.

I'm going to bed.

I found a handy little page with many handy programs and utilities.

I don't think I can handle this rejection. All the work I've done for this god damn site... and he's stuck on the spots. How long ago did I show him the prototype, and he's waited until now to say something?

I can't show what extraordinary blend of form and function can be presented via the web if I make it like any other site.

I'm in the process of formulating how I want to handle this. Granted, we have an agreement -- I underestimated how long it would take me, but that can be expected as this is one of my first real jobs that's not for myself. I presented him with the option of reselling, contracting the actual job to him while I created the site, worked on the marketing, and formulated my own business of sorts with the web site but he wanted me to build it for him.

I don't want to change it, but the main thing he mentioned was the "white spots". His wife couldn't get past the spots, "what are they for?" "they don't do anything". I had the spots mentioned to me early in development by Rachel, but didn't pay much heed. He didn't mention anything at the time, and I figured it would be far less prominent with text in front of it.

I suppose I could make a table inside, give that table a background, then the other things like the triangle showing which section you're in wouldn't be effected. Otherwise if I change the brightness or contrast, the 4 different places where it's blended all have to be changed, and in some cases that would mean reprocessing the whole background for a given section.

I'm just not in the mood for this. I've been working my ass off on this thing for the past couple nights. I was all excited that it was almost done, thinking it was really coming together and now I have to change the most non-functional, yet most-integral part of the site? The background?!! *sigh*

I got a bunch done today on the FinishLineGFX.com site, so I figured a break was in order. I had some left over coins from the Namco arcade, and Kahunavilla as well. I was hoping to play the boxing game until I could stand no more. Unfortunately it's no longer in the Namco arcade -- but I did get to play it @ Kahunaville. I got even further this time -- round 5, I think? It was the one right before "The Champ". I got the full workout, from skiing to boxing, to firing a giant gattling gun with a kick. I'm not quite at the dancing game stage, yet. I don't think I'll ever get the hang of that thing. ;)

I think that's all people (I) need to enjoy exercise. Japan figured it out, and we're just getting some of the games now. It's a good trend, no reason to sit motionless when we can get involved in the game. It's no substitute for rollerblading, biking, or doing the real deal... but when it's not possible otherwise, it's certainly better then watching the tube.

It was a nice little break, I returned refreshed and finished up my wading through piles of files needing cropping and coding.

I had this link waiting for me when I returned:
Unbe-frickin-lievable!

It's like there's nothing else to do in the Netherlands (.nl)

I seem to be eating up hard drives lately. Do I dare blame the pirated movie? Everything was going along fine until I played it once. My D drive has apparently died. It's the temp drive, filled with all the yummies I've gotten lately from bit-torrent, and the ISO files of a few DVDs I had yet to burn -- nothing major, but I'm still gonna miss the the data that was on it.

I'm pretty sure it's another Western Digital. I'm getting really sick of this, returning drives instead of having them work forever like they used to. I'm all for a 3 year warranty, maybe more... but I mean "come on". Yeah. Come on.

Yeah, the one they sent me was refurbished... as is the 40Gig that was recently opened to take it's place. It's no 100Gig-R but it'll work, and not ready to put that much confidence in their refurbished drives.

    I'm asking for S-ATA this time. =]

OGG files, or it may only be Serial Experiments: Lain specifically seem to have done something to my computer, I restored back to 2 days ago and it was fine, no extra buggies in the registry. I worry I may have gone too far. It's a trap, they're making it easily accessable to sneakily infiltrate controlling robots into your computers. Don't take these strangers "candy". Stick to your FTP servers, where at least the women and children are safe.

Run accross any OGG video files in your bit-torrenting? This link will help you play them.
Go here if you're still having issues.

I don't see how the OGG file itself could have done it, but the fact that the file compression requires 98% cpu, it may have just been the final straw for the HD. Working as both swap disk, and feeding the 260mb supercompressed video file was just too much for the little mule.

I'm not sure what I'm doing right now. I'm still up, can't sleep. I'm not hot... occasionally hearing the A/C go on upstairs... BAWOOOOOOooooooom... into a steady hum. My futon is getting more and more uncomfortable.
I'm thinking I need a UPS to keep the PC safe in the living room, the power keeps going out when everything's on and the A/C kicks in, bad for the computer. Everything's on the same circuit... thinking what I can do to change the setup. From running extension cords, to outfitting with a UPS, my mind is trying to solve this issue and not sleeping.

I had a Mary Kay party at my house today. Not mine, but the new housemate Laura's.
It was interesting, certainly wasn't the pushy sales pitch I was expecting. I was pleasantly surprised with a very nice woman, very knowledgeable of skin care.
I always thought that putting on makeup simply clogged the pores all back up. From what she said apparently you clean them out, moisturize, close them up, then protect with foundation.
You learn something new every day...

I'm frustrated with shaving. I can't do anything with the hair that grows in, if I shave every day it aggravates my skin.

I had dinner with my Dad last night. I was regretting it when I first met up with him. He loosened up over the course of the night, however. I never feel like I really know the man. I feel bad for him in a way... he reinvented his entire life, had this great plan... and it all fell apart. Now he's worse off then where he started before he decided he'd turn everyone's lives upside down for his own betterment. Wow, that sounds really bitter. I never thought I was all that bitter about it. i was glad when Mom moved out because she was always on my case. He then decided I needed a better example and went all Mormon. What a loopy thing to do.

I'm out of money, small complications here and there... spending money I shouldn't have to spend on the house, and paying other people's debts to keep things sane and relatively conflict free. I'm a little sad that a lot of the things I do for people go un-noticed. I try my best to use my resources for the universal good and betterment of those that live with me... and it's a lot of small things. I feel good when I do it, it's just hurting me in the pockets. When I don't -- I'm cheap, when I do... no one seems to notice. Sometimes it is noticed, and I appreciate it.

I know of someone else who tries to hard to please everyone. Ran himself into the ground with it, and made people even more angry then if he never promised a thing in the first place. I'm happy, things are going relatively well... but always need more. There's always more to be done, and more coming up down the road.

I thought of something I could do to save my degree. I'm in danger of losing credits, they drop off after 5 years. I ought to have my associates in programming by now. I could do it, but it's really really intensive. I thought of changing my major to web programming instead. I can already do that, might even be able to test out of some HTML classes and get a degree. A+, N+, Security, CCNA, MCSE... and a degree in web programming. That'd look good. I'm on my way, hopefully.

Wonder if I can sleep without a toke...

    Welcome to the real world...

I was feeling especially bogged down when I did this entry. You should do things because they need to be done, not so they'll be noticed. It probably won't be noticed, and if it bothers you that much -- mention it, blow your own horn. If no one else'll do it, why not?

By Josh, at Wednesday, May 26, 2004 1:26:00 AM

As far as the electricity -- I rigged something. It should be O.K. now. It's an extension cord to an outlet on a pretty-much unused circuit downstairs, but it works and no one can see it.

Here I sit covered in paint... a day well spent.

I woke up about 5:30 this morning on Stefan's couch. The TV was still on, and the juicer infomercial was going full force. I drove home, and slept till about 10 or so which is early for me on a Sunday. I showered, dressed, and began cleaning full force. Well -- good enough, got the 3rd floor TV room (smoking lounge) all spic and span, put up a new bamboo-like window shade. Much more light gets in now, and it certainly looks better then that dingy old shade that was there previously.

I went to grab something to eat,
A quick little trip to Big Y in E.Longmeadow
Though what I didn't know,
was that there was a cop in back of me, yo.

I went *screech screech* he went *BAWO-OH*
I looked in my rearview -- and said 'oh no!'

So he let me off -- I should have gotten a ticket, didn't even have my license on me... but he let me go. Whew. I've had the turbo gauge how many days? It's already getting me in trouble =]~

I got me some chicken, came home and ate - polished off the $1 IceHouse I had left from last night, and watched a bit of Smallville.

I had seen an episode or two before, I suppose from the first year... so when I saw it on bit-torrent I figured I might as well. They were good quality, WS-DVD rip, but had that WB-esque quality to them, dramatic and hokey... but entertaining none-the-less. Allison came down from painting her room, had some chicken, and watched with me for a while.

Once the beer worked its way through me I got my shit together and painted the doors and trim in the hallway. It looks all nice and clean now, again with the bye-bye dingy. =]

So I have almost the entire week off. No school this week, and Thursday is the only day I have to work.
I'm trying to plan a trip somewhere -- the beach, IMAX, wherever really... don't mind, just want to feel like I'm on vacation ;)

I just got back from Six Flags!
I was in the midst of washing my car (finally -- it's been getting grodier and grodier every day) when Allison called me. She had just gotten out of work and "wanted to play". I was game, I love spur of the moment adventures. So finished up, and she arrived shortly thereafter. A quick change of clothes -- and we were out.

My first trip to Six Flags (Riverside) in I'd say about 3 or 4 years. I didn't go on much but I did make it to the teacups, the giant sphere over the park, and the log ride. We got there kinda late and it took a while for me to process the season pass. I have one now though, I can't wait until the water park is open. Unfortunately I'm looking at all the other "season passes" you can buy -- like a season tube rental, a season parking pass... seems I'll have to go with Allison if I don't want to have to pay for parking as she works there.

It was fun, I'm still sketchy about what I can and can't ride, rather not take chances. I remember being on the black widow, before they added another loop and squiggle -- shook me apart, almost tore me limb from limb.

From then on I've stayed away from anything too dramatic. I passed on a ride or two, but Allison rode them and I was fine with watching. I even tried the strong man thing... got a 99. 1 damn point shy. It only would have been 1 out of 3 shots anyhow... so a tiny prize if anything =]

I played the boxing game too -- I was somewhat sober, got to level 4 again... but damn if my arms don't fall off. I was in much better shape then at Kahunaville when I was done those 4 rounds, however. =]
I will master that game, if it takes years!

A fun day -- and Stefan just called me about a get-together at his house, a little jammin. I'm down.

I'll post em ;)

Other points of interest:
- we got 3rd place in the triva game @ Hooters, I even have a bulbous keychain to show for it
- missed class today

Wow -- first of all Blogger's all different now. Didn't see that coming, though I suppose I should have given that they've got the money behind them now. =] It looks good, in that generic soft-drawing computer graphics kind of way, like XP.

I woke up this morning on the couch, covered in blood, and moderately sick. I'm not exactly sure what happened but here I am. I went out to my friend Jamie's birthday party. We started at Hooters, ended up at Kahunaville... and man was it packed. I had quite a few of the large beers, sung karioke and was even "asked to leave" at the end of the night. I sat outside until Jamie came out. She wouldn't let me drive, apparently I was going to? .:sigh:.
That's what friends are for, I hated to leave the car there, but that's what I got myself into.

I guess I fell back on the parking lot, they must have noticed me swaying from side to side and determined I was going to fall down inside the place -- so they sent me outside to fall on the pavement ;) I'm sure I saved a little bit of embarrassment, in any case.

It was quite the night, I'm pan-handling for a ride back to my car as we speak.
Phew, what a night =]

Claiming to be of higher class, worthy of more merit then money. It's a misrepresentation of higher status or importance.

I went to Amherst today with Jon. It was a beautiful afternoon.
We grabbed something to eat at the Amherst Brew Co, then found a nice batch of woods off of Pelam Rd to go for a walk. Its a beautiful little spot, a stream, trails going here and there through a moderately dense pine forrest... it was very relaxing.
It was Sunday, so it was all relatively quiet dispite everyone milling about, enjoying the fine spring weather in town. We were even so lucky as to have caught a glimpse of a few young ladies sunning themselves on a 2nd story roof on the way home. All-in-all a very pleasant afternoon. There's just something about Amherst -- I can never remember the way back.

Jon is always pleasant company. It'll certainly be sad when he moves away. On the bright side - I'll have someone on the other side of the country to visit some day. =]

I think he'll do well out there, I can't imagine a place more conducive to scooters and tech-based employment. ^-^

Today was a good day, couldn't have asked for better weather, or better company.
