I hate to be a one note horse here, but what do you do when all of a sudden you don't feel welcome?

I asked my friend who was going with another friend to go out to eat if they would mind if I tagged along. I was greeted with silence : OK, I can take a hint, that's fine, but then she said "well, you comin?" when she was ready to leave, without really saying anything in-between, like "Yeah! Come on!" or even a "sure". I said OK -- we were taking separate cars, but I had issues due to my electrical problem, didn't look like I was going to be able to start the car. I sent her a text message to cancel... received a call shortly after getting the car started after some fiddling and said "well I thought I was having issues -- but I got it". I asked if I should come because I didn't want it to be all uncomfortable if she really didn't want me there... I'd just rather not go. Again -- silence as a reply. Just freakin say something! yes? no? .:sigh:. Silence = no by default because it's the more difficult answer.

I was flustered and perturbed, went for a drive, got it out... and eventually spoke with a few other friends. I had the feeling I was being pushy, but under normal circumstances I would have been given the replies above... or at least some form of acknowledgement that didn't convey annoyance.
"Nuh!" =]~
