Tomorrow I don't have to work -- going on a sort of follow-up jaunt with my father to NY. I'm hoping that driving around his old stomping grounds will bring out some stories that I know he's got in there... he just can't recall very well unless he sees it, needs something to jar the memories loose.

My main objective in this endeavor is to be able to talk to my father in a 1 on 1 setting, maybe learn more about his past, and hopefully get some lessons from it without letting him know. He never really wanted to tell me why on a lot of things he'd say no to, but he never would go into detail, even when I asked. I knew he had his reasons, stories behind it, but for whatever reason he couldn't tell me.

I'm hoping he'll loosen up, be more comfortable with me as an adult... and maybe forget that he's mormon for a day. I blame a lot of the turmoil (divorce, adjusting at home) on his "converting" as it's the change that lead to all the other change, which eventually lead to the change of me moving out. It's like he denied his whole past because he wasn't living it as a mormon... as a good person should. .:sigh:.
