I went to go play pool this evening with my friend Caitlin and her partner in crime - Danielle.
We headed to one of my favorite spots: Boston Billiards. They have a really nice place, full-sized tables, good people, decent drinks if a little high-priced, and some of the best waitresses around. =]
There was a fire truck there - firemen walking on the roof, milling about. Danielle didn't have a valid ID so we couldn't get in, but the bouncer said there was a sort of electrical fire... then people started getting sick. It could have been gas... or insulation burning... something like that, so just as well that we didn't go - might save us some respiratory issues.
We ended up going to CoEd's a really seedy pool hall. Small tables, cheap sticks, cheap drafts and drinks. The local hangout for the local teenagers from near my hometown (Ware, Palmer, Warren, etc) so I usually see at least 1 person I know. You don't need to be 18 to get in, and they won't check for ID usually unless you go up to the bar.
We got a few drinks - played some pool - and headed home, not too exciting -- but we got out.
Everywhere was crawling with cops due to the holiday - just waiting to catch those swerving or speeding. I was just extra careful and made it home without incident.

I think the escalated level makes everyone edgy... they're looking at everything as a possible terrorist action.
Which reminds me: there's a new site that addresses the concern for national security... with webcams! (currently under development)
