It was just about 8:30 - I had just gotten out of the shower, ready for work... checking email and the like. Stern was on - talking of Pamela Anderson and "his chance". They were all calling him a pussy for not trying to take it any further then a kiss when he interupted. He said breaking news: there's just been an explosion at the World Trade Center. No one believed he was being legit - they thought it was just a distraction - so they might stop calling him a pussy. He said he was serious... that it might even possibly be from a plane. Running through my mind: "ooops, some pilot wasn't paying attention" - I was listening to the description of the fire, of the plane they said hit it. Someone even called in from nearby to describe the events from their perspective, then they spoke to someone on the ground. Everything was just incredible - I couldn't believe it was true. I wanted it not to be true. |

| I got ready for work, knowing that people I speak to every day could have possibly been in there, my heart had this sudden weight as I could feel the people in the building, on the planes... everything changed. Everything really felt special, I was thankful that I was safe, wondered about the future... but for the most part was savoring the moment.
Getting into work: people had already been effected in a big way. We huddled around the TV in the breakroom, watching the events unfold... the buildings start to buckle, and the collapse of the first... then the 2nd. I for one was dissapointed with the president's speech that morning. "...we have to get these folks". Ridiculous! Here are suicide hijackers killing us with our own planes - and you refer to them as "folks" - hmmm. I love the outpouring of support, the patriotism, the unity as a country, a home, no matter where you might be from... our home. It was an attack on the complacentness of a sucessful society, and it was also one of the biggest slaps in the face that can be given: attacking us with our own planes, our own people, and our own feeling of being safe in |

| our day to day lives. I am all up for revenge - because it sure can't happen again. These are not rational people. They don't stop until what they want is accomplished -- or all involved are dead.
I would never wish an innocent person be harmed on their side, however I ponder the depth of innocence of those that danced in the streets upon hearing of what had happened to America. It hadn't been announced that anyone had taken responsibility (and still to this day - no one has) yet they were happy to dance. I still didn't believe it until I saw the pictures for myself. The unity of Americans has already started, the econimics of war always work - we just needed a bad guy. There is a reason for this - its retribution for those that had to die for some to open their eyes. Their death gave birth to a new America, United - as it should be. |
